Changing Strings on Guitars with Slotted Pegheads

Slotted pegheads are found on many 12 fret steel string guitars and
classical guitars.

Step 1. Thread It's often easiest to start with the instrument lying on it's back and the tuning post hole pointing upwards. Pass the string down thru the hole and pull it up and between the tuners towards the end of the peghead.

Step 2. Loop behind Run the squirrel around the tree...and towards the side you are going to add your string windings to. Wrapping those windings over the string will lock it in place. In the above picture I will add my windings on the outer edge towards the tuning key. NOTE: Nylon strings can be tied here to prevent slippage.

A CHANGE IN TENSION = A CHANGE IN TUNING

Believe it or not, properly winding a string around the tuning post happens to solve most tuning complaints. A poorly wound string does not press tightly against the post nor is it anchored in a way to prevent it from slipping back thru the tuning post hole. Slippage and slack are the enemies.
