Taylor Side Crack Repair - Page 18

An impact caused the crack on this instruments side panel. For an invisible repair this one would have to be repaired using the same UV cured finish with which it was originally sprayed. I aligned, repaired and cleated the crack for reinforcement. A little touch up with cyanoacrylate helped to produce a better cosmetic appearance though it is far from "invisible".

Alignment of cracks are necessary to reduce the need to level sand.

Repaired Side Crack

Here's another example of a side crack on a different Taylor, 500 series.

If you look at 2nd picture you can see how the finish looked after being repaired. When dealing with Taylor's U.V. cured finish we are not able to "melt" the existing finish but by "bleeding" the cyano beneath the lifted finish and using it as a fill in areas that have missing chips it looks pretty good. While I have had a few of these look nearly invisible, it is more likely that a thin white line is visible depending on how well the glue seeks into the nooks and crannies and fills those areas. New techniques in repairing these finishes have been developed by the factory and spot refinishing is now possible.
