My Holland Lop House Rabbits

It's True,
I LOVE BUNNY RABBITS
Sadie, Sable Point Holland Lop Rabbit
Pictured above is Sadie. He was one baby in a litter of 8 Holland Lop rabbits
that I raised when Tracy of Saynora Rabbitry  gave me Hannah, a pregnant doe.

We both knew that I would never breed rabbits but that I would enjoy the opportunity to witness their birth and see little one's grow, even if it was just this once.
(If you are a pet rabbit owner considering breeding your rabbit, just for fun, please read my Adoption page)

The baby Holland Lops were born in June of 2000. Rabbits have a short gestation period and give birth right around a month (28 days) after becoming pregnant. After placing a nest box filled with hay in the cage with Hannah we waited for signs that delivery was near. Expectant mothers will pull fur from their belly and line the nest box just prior to giving birth. It's important that she is given a cage to herself.

One the day they were born I awoke around 7am and snuck in to check the box...Oh BOY! There was fur!
I could hardly wait. I came back a little after 8am and there was a nest full of pink little "thumbs". I was amazed to find that they were perfectly clean as was the cage and nest box. Simply spotless...Mom had done a very good job.

The final count was 8 babies! Even more surprising to me was that Hannah had given birth to 8 perfectly healthy babies, 6 whites, 1 sable point and 1 broken. I found homes for the other 7 but couldn't resist keeping the sable buck...whom I thought was a doe, hence the name Sadie. Ha, sorry boy.

My site describes my personal experiences living with house rabbits.  I have had house rabbits since the late 80's and have found that I love no other animal more than I do the rabbit.
I hope that present and potential house rabbit owners will
find the enjoyment I have in living with house rabbits.
Sincerely,
Marguerite  (email)
